Weekend Recap and other news

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

T&H has had some interesting adventures of late. This past Friday we performed at the 1st annual Greensong festival in Murrayville, GA. This festival was about using music to inspire and motivate people to get serious about eco-responsibilty. The festival had a no trash policy; everything attendees brought or used, they took with them when they left. The event also commerated the 81st birthday of Grandmother Elspeth, the “Crone on the Road.” We shared the stage with Flute player and craftsman Mark Wagenschnur, and with the the remarkable singer-songwriter Andrew McKnight.

Saturday we returned to the Hungry Ear Coffeehouse, sharing the night with the fabulous duo Out of the Rain. This group features Ron Hipp on Guitar, Banjo, and vocals, and Carol Statella on Viola, Guitar, and Vocals. They sounded wonderful, as always. (Carol Statella can also be heard on the T&H album Front row Seat.)

In other news, T&H’s music was recently accepted to be played on several radio programs including:

Weekend Recap 2/11-2/12

Friday, February 18th, 2011

Last weekend was action packed and fun-filled. On Friday, 2/11, Tortoise & Hair found themselves back at Cafe 45 South in Norcross GA, one of their favorite venues. They encountered many familiar faces including the great guitarist and singer Bob Bakert who jammed on a couple of tunes.

Saturday afternoon, T&H serenaded the Canton Chocolate Walk in Canton, GA. Though the air was a tad cold, they put on layers, plugged in heaters, and a good time was had by all. Local KSU student and aspiring photographer Zack Godfrey took the pictures you see below. Thanks Zack!

Saturday evening, T&H made their final stop for the week at Stadium Grill in Marietta, GA. This was a new venue for them, but with any luck, it’ll become another frequent hub for T&H tunes. Again, some excellent musicians showed up to listen and to share the stage, including Jennifer Ferren and Eddie Brodeaur of Freeflight, and vocalist Gina Tenore. Many thanks to them, as well as to the many friends and fans who showed up!

To the Least and the Lost

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

Mt Bethel United Methodist in Marietta, GA, Tortoise & Hair’s home church, is intensely refocusing itself on community outreach and service under the banner “To the Least and the Lost“. This winter the church has been making nightly trips to downtown Atlanta, picking up bus loads of homeless off the below-freezing streets, and taking them to it’s facilities to provide meals, supplies, and a place to sleep. Church members have been coming by in droves to provide food and supplies and also to mingle with and get to know the guests. This campaign is the beginning of massive effort by the church to find bold new ways to impact the community for the kingdom of God.

Dustin (the Tortoise) performs regularly in the 9:30 Sunday service at Mt Bethel United Methodist.
