Stars Fell to the Ground
Several people have asked us about the lyrics to this song, so in case you were wondering:
You can’t see through the greens and the browns,
when you look at the night sky over town.
But there’s still lots of light to get around,
in the land where the Stars fell to the ground.
There’s a line of cars that twinkle in the night.
They come so far to see your neon lights.
It’s a flash that grabs your eye and draws you in.
You pay the toll and they treat you like a friend.
But they don’t ask where you’re from.
and they don’t care what you’ve done.
and they just want bodies in the seats,
numbers at the feet of their thrones.
Once we worshipped mysteries in the sky,
and by the stars a man would live or die.
Now we needn’t gaze beyond the earth.
Gods abound everywhere you turn.
But they bid you not to prophesy.
and they hang a cloak across the sky,
and you look around and wonder if you dare;
it’s the Powers of the Air* you belie.
There are things you’ll only do when the light is gone,
so carry on while the night is young,
but everybody knows when the morning comes,
You’ll out shine the stars but you can’t out shine the sun.
In the land where the Stars Fell to the Ground.
